Our Story
We have been breeding since 1987. We have never had a single substantiated complaint against us during that entire time regarding our beautiful dogs; this was even confirmed in a letter provided by DogsQLD on the 24th of August 2016, where they stated; “I can confirm that there has not been any complaint made against Mr Summers or the prefix DARKASHADOWS since that membership began.“ What we are most proud of, is the number of families that we have been able to help, with finding their new four legged friends and that have either come back for another one of our babies or recommended us to their friends and the lovely comments that we have received over the years.
We are located on 30 (usually) lush acres, in the beautiful Mary Valley in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, in sunny Queensland. Due to health reasons, we were forced to sell our business and after nearly 30 years in Sales and Management, we now concentrate on our beautiful babies and our miniature Galloway Cattle, whom without we would not be complete. Being on acreage allows our loving companions plenty of space to run around, play and swim in our dams. We only ever have about 10-15 dogs at any one time, many being our older de-sexed pets, as such we only have limited litters each year, so we are able to ensure that the pups are well socialised. We concentrate on the heavier European Style of Dobermann; in particular the Natural Born Bobtail Dobermann lines. Like many in our region we have suffered nearly 8 years of severe drought, but we have refused to send any of our beautiful cows to slaughter, instead buying hay and water for nearly the past 8 years.
Since docking is now illegal in Australia & New Zealand, you can still have your Legally Docked Doberman, by getting a Natural Born Bobtail Dobermann or NBBT. Which is fantastic you can still have your Bobtail or Docked Doberman look but do not have to harm your loving pet by chopping its tail off, like some of these barbaric unscrupulous breeders do. Unlike some other unscrupulous breeders, we do not farm our dogs out to other homes, pretending we care about the dogs, then only to have them sent back so they can have a litter of pups to sell. Our Purebred, ANKC Registered Dobermanns, have been DNA tested and confirmed as Natural Born Bobtail Dobermanns, including having them DNA purity tested as well. We guarantee that your new baby will be DCM1 and vWD non affected, verified by either DNA or parentage. As all our pups go to their new homes de-sexed, we never need to worry that they are going to some backyard breeder.
We have a deep seated love for all animals, Dogs in particular; my wife and I each had our first four legged friend over 50 years ago, and our families association with dogs goes back even further, as far back as the 1940’s where both her Grandfather and her Uncle; both bred and successfully showed Pedigreed Registered Dogs in Germany. Dogs have been a major part of our lives and as such we only do this as a hobby and for the love of our dogs. Unlike a number of other of so-called “registered breeders”, we only have very limited and irregular litters.
We do not farm our dogs out to other parties so we can have more litters. We do not mutilate our dogs by chopping their ears or tails off, like some of these other breeders have done to their dogs. Just because a breeder wins all these titles and attends all these shows, does not mean they are ethical breeders or that they have the best dogs, there are many breeders out there that have much better dogs than some of these so called reputable breeders, with all their titles and ribbons, if you attend enough small country shows you will eventually collect enough points to title your dog.
